A short nonlinear narrative about the love story between Alana Scott, from Detroit, and Ian Cooke from Manchester, England. The story is told in ten discrete moments, real and fictional, across five years of their transatlantic relationship.

Project Details
To a Fictional Friendship was the senior capstone project in my film degree at Wayne State University. I was selected to direct the film in a semester-long workshop with award-winning director Julie Dash. The piece was originally written as a semi-autobiographical series of microfiction stories, and I adapted it to the screen as a series of vignettes tied together with city imagery from a train.
I had the incredible experience of being involved in every area of production, and I had the good fortune of working with actors that followed me through the relationship between these two characters across two months of sporadic shooting days. We had wonderful support from community businesses that allowed us to shoot in so many different locations in the city.
The film was shot in spring 2013 and finished in early 2014. All production was in Detroit, MI.
